What is Femap?
As an engineer, you should demand software that is not only cost effective and easy to use, but with the power to model the toughest problem. Femap delivers just that - affordable high performance FEA modeling for the engineering desktop. Femap is recognized as the world's leading CAD-independent Windows-native pre- and post- processor for advanced engineering finite element analysis.
Femap Features
Femap provides comprehensive functionality in an independent environment for modeling, simulation and review of product performance results.
Geometry creation:Boolean and extrude/revolve solid modeling; mid-surface extraction; project curves onto surfaces; intersect surfaces to create curves; define regions by projecting curves on solid; create curves based on U-V space on surfaces; shell solids with constant thickness; rule, revolve, extrude and loft surfaces; stitch surfaces into solids; create points, lines, arcs, circles and splines;. break, trim, extend, join, fillet, offset and copy geometric entities.
Import or export: DXF and IGES points and curves, stereolithography (SLA) data, ACIS (.sat) Parasolid (.x_t) parts or assemblies. CATIA import model files, and Express files from CATEXP. (CATIA v4.1.x, v4.2, or v5) , VDA Import (up to v2.0), I-deas import (MS8), Pro/E import.(v16 to v20), Solid Edge import, Unigraphics NX import.( v11 through NX v4).
Meshing: Global and local controls with default sizing. Define element size or spacing with bias. Free surface meshing, quads or triangles only. Mapped meshing with quads or bricks. Direct generation of line, shell and solid elements. Extrude and revolve geometric curves or line elements into shell elements, shell elements can be extruded or revolved to form solid elements. Connected shell elements can be extruded normal to themselves to turn thin-shell models into solid ones. Mesh refinement and smoothing. Subdivision and semi-automatic meshing of solids, Automatic solid meshing with tetrahedral elements.
Materials:Isotropic, orthotropic and anisotropic. Nonlinear elastic, bi-linear and plastic. Hardening: isotropic or kinematic. Hyperelasticity, creep and composites. Temperature and strain rate dependence. User extensible library included. Learn More

Femap Training
Advanced ModelingFemap 201 provides an in-depth examination of some of the more advanced features of Femap. Topics include geometry repair & preparation, mapped meshing, hex meshing, using data surfaces for complex loading and boundary conditions, advanced grouping operations, operations on results, and overview of the API.
API DevelopmentThis course provides instruction in the use of the FEMAP API to develop custom routines and applications. Topics covered will include the Visual Basic programming language, working with the FEMAP code editor, the FEMAP application and entity objects, debugging FEMAP API code, custom user interfaces, COM/OLE development and programming for FEMAP using Microsoft Excel.
Applied Damage ToleranceAll aircraft and aerospace parts, including pressurized vessels, must have adequate life (i.e. safe-life) during their service usage. This class will teach engineers and students how to estimate the life of fracture critical parts when they are exposed to varying load environments. Numerous example problems related to durability and damage tolerance of high risk parts are included in the class curriculum.
This is an intermediate level course in durability and damage tolerance with emphasis in applications.
Instructor: Dr. Bob Farahmand, renowned author of 3 fatigue and fracture mechanics books, and also author of highly successful methods in the area of ductile fracture and prediction of residual strength in the presence of plasticity.
Femap for Patran UsersThe objective of this course is to introduce the Femap Pre & Post processor environment to experienced FEA and Patran users.
Introduction to FemapLearn how to run Femap with NX Nastran to solve engineering problems. Detailed instruction is given on the Femap Pre/Post environment with an emphasis on good FEA modeling practices. NX Nastran is the solver used in the course and applicable modeling techniques are covered. The course is given in a lecture plus lab work format.
